This is a hair barrette that I created for the Starving Jewelry Artists Challenge. The theme is Indian Summer, which is perfect for around here because summer creeps way on into October.
The challenge was to use the colors of fall, reds, yellows, browns, and a Native American theme, motif, or weave. I chose to create a bead embroidered barrette using a turquoise cabochon that I'd had on hand for a while. For the Native American motif, I decided to use the medallion pattern on either side of the cab. I really liked the cross pattern that I saw in a lot of Native American beadwork when I was doing the research. I think it turned out great and it'll be great to wear this fall (or Indian Summer)!
