Somewhere between 7pm and 8pm and Artbeads

This time around the Artbeads blogging challenge was "What's Old is New".
Well, considering I never started wearing jewelry until I actually started making jewelry, I really didn't have any "old" jewelry on hand. Everything I've got I've made within the last couple of years. (My mom is about the same way, so there really was nothing to "steal" from her to use for this challenge.)
So, I found a seller on Etsy who was salvaging antique watch faces and selling them for use in jewelry and steampunkery and what-not.

So, for my old to new pieces I've combined the watch faces and some beads from Artbeads.com to make some new Steampunkery.

The first piece is a ring. It features a silver watch face, a few seed beads, some well-placed gears, and is edged with some sparkly fire-polished czech glass.
It doesn't actually tell time as I had to glue it down and the hands along with it, but even a broken watch is right twice a day! (In this case, 8am and 8pm exactly)
If you'd like to see more pictures, it's in the shop here.

The second piece is a little more elaborate. Another watch face, this time in a bright copper, surrounded by more seeds and fire-polished glass, but this time I added a little Art Deco link to the top of the pendant from Artbeads' collection of links and added a little fringe with some leftover watch parts and what-nots.

This one, unfortunately doesn't tell time either.....except at 7am and 7pm on the dot!
It's also here in my shop if you'd like to see some close-up photos.

Oh, and did you know that Artbeads.com has an entire section dedicated to Steampunk?!
So, if you're feeling a little Steampunkish, I suggest you head on over there and check it out.
Think mixed metals, gears and spinners, filigree and old keys, matte and shiny finishes and Jules Verne thrown in for good measure.

Have a great Tuesday!

  1. I adore your pendant! The burgundy with the copper is really beautiful.

I love working with vintage pieces. I've been fortunate in inheriting some but I also visit antique malls and flea markets for pieces to take apart.
